Happy Holidays vs. Frohe Weihnachten
I am en route to Germany where I will celebrate Christmas with my family. I love the subtle differences between celebrating Christmas in the US and Christmas in Germany. But whether you believe in Santa Claus or the Christkind, whether you are drinking eggnog or Glühwein or whether you open your presents on Christmas Day or Christmas Eve there is one thing that I do miss in Germany: the Holiday Lights. I think there is something so sweetly enthusiastic about people climbing on their rooftops just past Thanksgiving, and defying all laws of gravity in order to install Mr. Claus and his sleigh with reindeer.
This particular photograph was taken at the Nask Family’s House in Mamaroneck. I know that they are called the Nask Family because there is a great sign on their front lawn that reads: „Happy Holidays from the Nasks“. It is rumored that on Christmas Day Mr. Nask dons a Santa Suit and sits in a golf cart (also located on his front lawn) and waves at people walking and driving by… maybe one year I will see him!
I wish you all Happy Holidays, Frohe Weihnachten and a great start to 2010!
